This is my first blog!  And in this one from the month December 2011, I show you an image taken at the last project in the Serengeti in Tanzania. It is taken at one of the greatest spectacles in the world ! The great migration !

Migration

As you can see, truly one of the worlds wonders. It was amazing to witness this and an honour to photograph this to share with others. How ever the wildebeest are under pressure of more tourists, which mean that sadly some crossings are disturbed by cars that want to be to early at a crossing or to close in the front where the wildebeest come out of the water. In both cases it means that the crossing will end, a lot of energy is used ( special by the youngsters ), which can be fatal by the next attempt.

But the pressure of tourism can also mean the survival of this migration because the amount of money this generates for Tanzania and the local communities around the park. But all of this is easily destroyed if the plan to build a highway through the Serengeti becomes reality. That’s why it is so important that everybody appose against these plans, to keep this magnificent wonder of our world, not only for us, but for all our children and future generations.

About the photograph; After waiting for about two hours covered by bushes and trees, we could approach the crossing after the first wildebeest were out of the water and the crossing was one line. The important thing was to get the right position, which is not always at the front and also depending on the light. After taking position there is time enough with crossings of this size (more then 100.000 animals). Used was a 500mm, iso 1250 to get a speed of 1/1000 and F13 for enough sharpness end depth of field.
